Another low value blog post: Google never learns...

I mentioned in my last blog post that I was submitting my site for review from the Google Adsense people, to see if I could have a few adverts on this site.

Well, my review's now complete and the outcome is... DENIED.

Why, I hear you ask?

Nobody likes a bad review...but this is damning!

That's right. My site isn't fit for ads, because it has "low value content".

Now, I'm trying really hard not to take this personally. It's probably not a criticism of my writing, which as we all know is exemplary. It's probably just a rule. You need to have so many words, or so many pages, or something.

So, let's follow their link to Minimum content requirements.

Does my site meet the requirements?

Well, let's see... I've not stolen any content, I've not degraded anyone, I'm not aware that I've been cruel to animals...etc etc.

You get the idea. This page is wholly unhelpful. It offers me a load of rules, but no guidance as to which of these rules I might be in violation of.

And the same goes for all the other links, basically.

This whole thing flashed me back 6 years, to the time Google told me that my apps were in violation of Play Store policy, but refused to tell me why

In both instances, I needed a human being to write one sentence to tell me what I'd done wrong. Not a list to loads of generic content. Not more help centre articles. Just a sentence.

So, where does that leave me?

I'm not sure I can be bothered. I never had anticipation that ads on this site would be a huge money-spinner. And I'm kinda done with jumping through Google's hoops at this point. In my last blog post I mentioned that the ability to have adverts was one of the key deciding factors in using blogger...so if I can't do that, maybe I should look to use another platform, which isn't quite so clunky.

So, watch this space. Or a space that looks very much like this, but hosted on another platform, maybe :)
